These rocking dories are based on the original Gloucester Rockers designed by artist, author, and sailor Buckley Smith. Mr Smith caught the essence of a Grand Banks fishing dory in this whimsical and imaginative children's toy.
The Wooden Boat Store catalog describes the design: "This animated rocking dory is oozing with personality. The big sweeping sheer, traditional transom with a sculling notch, cleat handle, and wave like rockers...."
We build these dories by hand in Marshfield, Massachusetts of mahogany, northern white cedar, marine plywood, and stainless steel fasteners.
They are heirloom quality and look great in any setting. The materials and finishes are all non toxic. They come in many colors and combinations.

Dory Toy Boats
Our toy, or model, dories have many uses, from mantelpiece or table top decorations, to kids toys for the beach, pond or pool. We’ve seen them used as cat beds, catchalls for keys, mail, etc. to fruit baskets.
Their lines and shape are based on a 16’ Banks dory originally designed in 1884 at the Portsmouth, New Hampshire Navy Yard, and later re-drawn, in 1977, by John Gardner, the “Dean of American small craft.” The lines are published on page 147 of The Dory Book by John Gardner, 1978.
We build these toy dories with the same care, craftsmanship and high quality materials as our rocking dories. (Mahogany, marine plywood, stainless steel).
We build them in two sizes; a three footer with an eleven inch beam, and a two footer with a seven inch beam. They have varnished mahogany stems and transoms.
